Error Codes

Atlas API error codes, retry guidance, fresh-identifier rules, and troubleshooting paths for search, booking, payment, refund, and post-booking flows.

💬 Need help? If you're stuck, ask Eva in the Help Center for instant diagnostics.

Ask Eva

Use this page to decide whether to retry, restart from an earlier step, or stop before another payment call.

Start here when you need to:

  • identify what an error code usually means

  • decide whether the request is safe to retry

  • jump to the correct troubleshooting page fast

Most teams should first identify the failed step.

Then decide whether the issue is caused by input, identifier expiry, inventory change, payment state, or platform conditions.

Fast answers

Should I retry this Atlas API error?

Retry only when the failure is clearly transient.

Timeout, short-lived load, and some airline-side failures are usually retryable.

Input errors, expired identifiers, stale ancillaries, and duplicate-payment risks are not.

Which errors usually need a fresh identifier?

Codes such as 202, 206, 207, 210, 301, 302, 308, and 631 usually mean the current booking context is no longer valid.

Start again from the correct earlier step instead of resubmitting the same identifier.

When should I avoid retrying pay.do?

Do not retry payment when the order may already be paid, ticketing, or waiting for airline confirmation.

Check order state first for cases such as 402, 404, 406, and 615.

What changes for getOfferPrice.do orders?

Treat payment and ticketing failures more aggressively in the fulfillment flow.

The active window is 5 minutes, not the standard 30-minute hold model.

Retry only after confirming the order is still payable and still inside the active window.

429 request-limit handling

Atlas may reject over-limit pre-booking requests with Atlas error code 429.

This policy applies to these pools:

  • search.do with 10 QPS

  • verify.do and getOffers.do with shared 60 QPM

  • seatAvailability.do and getLuggage.do with shared 60 QPM

order.do and pay.do are not part of this policy.

Response fields

Use these fields when 429 is returned:

  • code — error code

  • message — error summary

  • limitType — the active limit bucket

  • limit — current configured limit

  • retryAfter — wait time in seconds before retry

Response sample

Use API Request Limits for the full policy, counting rules, and pool mapping.

What counts toward the limit

These requests count:

  • successful requests

  • no-result requests

  • business failures and airline failures

  • cache-hit responses

These requests do not count:

  • requests already rejected by request-limit governance

  • authentication failures

  • parameter validation failures

  • permission or security-policy rejections

  • idempotency-blocked duplicates that never enter business processing

Retry policy

Use this rule before any retry:

  • Yes: retry now or after a short delay

  • Partial: retry only after changing the condition

  • No: fix the input, flow, or account setup first

Typical Partial cases:

  • 429: wait for retryAfter, then retry with lower frequency

  • 110: add back-off before retry

  • 406: wait for the in-flight payment to finish

  • 415: complete orderCommit.do first

  • 616 or 633: switch payment method

  • 108, 113, 324: retry later, not immediately

High-risk mistakes

These cases cause the most avoidable repeat failures:

110 Too many concurrent requests

Do not retry immediately.

Add exponential back-off. Start around 1s. Cap around 30s.

429 Request limit exceeded

Do not retry immediately.

Wait for the returned retryAfter value first.

Then reduce burst size, reuse cache, and slow the next retry wave.

202 Routing identifier expired

Do not retry verify.do with the same routingIdentifier.

routingIdentifier is valid for up to 6 hours after search.do.

Run search again first.

301 Session does not exist or timed out

Do not reuse the same sessionId.

sessionId is valid for up to 2 hours after verify.do.

Run verify.do again to get a fresh session.

406 Payment operation is in progress

Do not send another payment request while one is still running.

Wait and query the order state.

615 Payment completed but failed to get PNR

Do not retry payment.

Atlas will pursue the PNR manually. Use order query to monitor status.

415 Order is not confirmed by user

Common in FR flow.

Call orderCommit.do before pay.do.

Pattern-based checks

If the error alone does not explain the failure, check the integration pattern:

  • polling stopped after first TktInProcess

  • expired routingIdentifier reused

  • expired sessionId reused

  • ancillary productCode reused across sessions

  • sandbox and production credentials mixed

  • webhook not configured, with polling used as the only status source

Use the related flow pages when the issue is caused by implementation behavior, not only by an error code.

  1. Identify the flow that failed

  2. Check whether the issue is input, inventory, identifier expiry, payment, or platform related

  3. Decide whether the code is Yes, Partial, or No for retry

  4. Retry only when the failure is truly transient

  5. Escalate with request context if the same error repeats

Common first checks

  • Validate credentials and account access

  • Confirm required fields are present

  • Confirm identifiers are fresh

  • Query order state before retrying payment

  • Check balance before retrying search, order, or refund flows

FAQ

What do Atlas API error codes usually help me decide?

They help you decide whether the failure is caused by request input, expired identifiers, inventory change, payment state, or a transient platform condition.

Use the flow-specific guides above before relying only on the full legacy table.

Which Atlas API error codes are usually safe to retry?

Typical retryable cases include short-lived timeout or transient platform conditions such as 112, 127, 205, 316, and 705.

Always apply back-off where needed and avoid blind retry loops.

429 is retryable only after the returned retryAfter delay and only with lower request frequency.

Use 429 vs 110 when you need the distinction between request-limit governance and search concurrency pressure.

Which error codes mean I need a new identifier or a new flow?

Codes such as 202, 206, 207, 210, 301, 302, 308, and 631 usually mean the current identifier, inventory state, or booking context is no longer valid.

In these cases, restart from the right earlier step instead of resubmitting the same request.

Should I retry pay.do after a payment error?

Not always.

For 406, wait and query the order first.

For 402, 404, or 615, do not retry payment until you confirm the actual order state.

For 616 or 633, change the payment condition first.

For getOfferPrice.do orders, also confirm that the retry still fits the fulfillment deadline.
